The Alpine Lakes Heli Hike is an unforgettable adventure tour through the heart of New Zealand’s dramatically beautiful World Heritage Conservation area bordering on Mt Aspiring National Park deep within the Southern Alps.
The tour lasts for 4 hours and can be taken in the morning or afternoon, at your discretion, and we will of course pick you up and drop you off at you accommodation.
We will begin the tour driving up the scenic Matukituki River Valley and all its natural beauty to board a helicopter and take to the skies, giving us a stunning bird’s eye view of the valley we have just travelled through.
Soaring over the majestic peaks of the National Park, the helicopter will take us up to 1400m to the pristine waters of three untouched alpine lakes, sparkling against the stunning back drop of the imposing Mount Aspiring (Tititea) and its surrounding glaciers. This was the location of Bear Grylls training camp for the filming of his series “Get out Alive”.
Experience the majesty and solitude of this exceptional alpine environment as you begin a 2 hour scenic hike through alpine tussock herb fields, past emerald clear lakes and along spectacular ridges. There is plenty of time to stop for photos and stories narrated by your enlivening and highly experienced personal guide.
At the completion of the hike, your helicopter returns and flies you off to a highly secret mountain top location for an opportunity for photos, before returning you to base or your accommodation. For everyone looking for a unique eco travel adventure this is the perfect ending to a perfect day.
